This work ‘mutantes extraterrestres’ means ‘mutant aliens’- it is executed in ‘naïve primitive’ style. The work is a metaphor for the tourists who arrived in Cuba during the 1990s, known as ‘The Special Period’ after they lost Soviet subsidies. These ‘aliens’ brought stories and unknown extra-terrestrial objects missing in the country such as video cameras, cell phones and dollars which signified hope for the future.
