This is part of a series of ‘messages in a bottle’ as metaphors. It details the idea of inescapability and containment, indicating the artist’s feeling of entrapment on the tropical island. His objects in glass show various landmarks in Cuba and express his love for his country and his disdain for its problems. Gonzalez’ paintings are his own messages in a bottle to the world outside of Cuba asking to be saved from this politically imposed isolation.
