Julio Breff

"The first thing I drew was a butterfly" , said Julio once. Ever since he was a child he drew with charcoal on walls: butterflies, houses, animals and landscapes. "Nobody taught me. I was just trying to imitate nature.” He grew up rural areas of eastern Cuba and was the youngest in a family of twelve children.

Many of Breff's art is about progress and overcoming obstacles. Breff included a series of "mutantes extraterrestres", also known as aliens. By aliens he means tourist visiting Cuba who brought with them stories and activities unknown to him such as video cameras, music and dollars.

He has become part of many organizations but the one that has helped him the most is the Cuban Cultural Ventures, a foundation from the Netherlands. The benefits from it include overseas networking,  new inspiration and, moreover, the possibility of sale of his work.
